There really should only be one of the normal three points made after a Lions game here in Three-Down Territory because the truth is they only played Friday for one quarter, on offence at least. Somehow they pulled out a 25-24 win over the Calgary Stampeders, and there are a few things worth discussing.

First down: It was hard to tell who felt better about the come from behind win in the Lions locker room afterwards. Certainly the defence played lights out to keep the Lions in the game. Kevin Glenn felt relieved, though he didn’t show a great deal.

The guy who felt the best about the outcome was Shawn Gore, as it was the holding penalty he took on an Andrew Harris 75-yard run that made the Lions score the winning touchdown a different way.

Gore was biting his tongue hard afterwards, implying the kind of holding that was called is allowable on a variety of similar plays. Somehow the Lions survived though.

Second down: We’ve said it before and it bears repeating a game. It is hard not to take for granted what Andrew Harris does for the Lions on nearly a nightly basis. In the fourth quarter Friday it was as if Harris decided once again to carry his team on its back. He had 74 yards offence in the 91-yard touchdown drive that did count to open the fourth quarter. And because the Stamps had to pay attention, Glenn found just enough room to find Ernest Jackson for the winning touchdown with 1:34 left.

Harris had 15 carries for 70 yards along the ground. When he has more than 10 carries in a game, the Lions are now 24-2 in their last 26 outings. Enough said.

Third down: It’s far too early to start making individual trophy pitches, but if there’s an award for top defensive player in the first one-third of the season it has to go to the Lions’ Solomon Elimimian.

As much as Harris often doesn’t allow the Lions to lose on offence, the B.C. middle linebacker is a tackling machine so far this year. He had 10 more drops against Calgary, and he started the week’s play with a 17-tackle lead on the entire league. Now all that has to happen for Elimimian is continued good health, which has not always come his way. What he has done so far, however, has been nothing short of exemplary.
